KARACHI: Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued visas to the Indian Davis Cup team and the staff as the two sides are set to take on each other at the grass courts of Pakistan Sports Complex on February 3-4.
The Indian team, who first refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns, have now started shaping their travel plans as they have received the visas.
“Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi has issued visas to Indian Davis Cup team, including the support staff, to play the Davis Cup World Group -1 Playoff Tie between Pakistan and India. The Playoff match is scheduled to be held on 3-4 February 2024 in Islamabad,” Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said in a brief press release.
The Indian tennis team will get top-notch security cover during their forthcoming visit to Islamabad to feature in the Davis Cup Group I tie against Pakistan.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Director General Shoaib Khoso earlier chaired a high-level meeting to finalise the arrangements to hold the tie in a befitting manner.
The meeting was participated by all the representatives of relevant security agencies and officials from local police, traffic police and the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).
Meanwhile, special measures are also underway to keep the grass at the venue in the best possible shape for the Davis Cup tie.
The measures are required in the winter season to keep the grass in good condition. The extreme cold usually leaves the grass half-dead.
According to the tentative schedule, the India team is expected to arrive in Islamabad on January 29 to compete in the tie scheduled to be held on the Sports Complex courts on February 3-4.
